What is American Sign Language?

American Sign Language, or ASL, is a naturally developed, visual language that is predominantly used by the Deaf community.  Hand shapes, movements, as well as facial expression and non-manual cues are all communicated visually.  ASL is not universal and is unique to America. 

Why Learn American Sign Language?
