ASL High School Foreign Language Courses

Your student can:
  • Complete one year foreign language Level 1 for standard HS requirements
  • Complete Level 2 as second year for standard university requirements (or even take Level 3!)
  • Grow in a unique language and work towards fluency
  • Encounter a new culture!

ASL Level 1 (9th-12th)
$540* per Semester
*2026/27 school year
ASL Level 1 students participate in classes designed to learn ASL interactively and comprehensively, as a foreign language. This course is beginner/introductory and requires no prior experience of ASL.  Classes will cover language rules, syntax, grammar structures, the manual alphabet, fingerspelling, basic use of numbers, extensive vocabulary, basic conversational skills and more! We learn and practice with ASL, sign centered games, and sign conversation time. Classes will also cover a basic knowledge of Deaf culture and history. Throughout this course students will learn to communicate, express and converse using ASL. Various weekly homework assignments given for independent practice. Deaf culture events assigned. Exams given. Suggested grades recorded. ASL Level 1 is a one year (two semester) course and cannot be added or joined after week 5.

ASL Level 1 Days and Times:

ASL Level 2 (10th-12th)
$540* per Semester
*2026/27 school year
ASL Level 2 students participate in classes designed to continue learning ASL comprehensively, as a foreign language. ASL Level 2 is an advanced course that requires a completed year of ASL Level 1, beginner sign, or equivalent with a passing grade. Students will grow in fluidity, special concepts, use of classifiers, and storytelling. Throughout the course we will continue to learn and practice language rules, syntax, grammar structures, the manual alphabet, fingerspelling, advanced use of numbers, extensive vocabulary, advanced conversational skills and more! Students learn and practice with conversation time and sign games. Classes will also continue to cover knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and events. Various weekly homework assignments given for independent practice. Deaf culture events assigned. Exams given. Suggested grades recorded. ASL Level 2 is a one year (two semester) course.

ASL Level 2 Days and Times:

1st Period - 9:00am - 10:30am


ASL Level 3 (10th-12th)
$540* per Semester
*2026/27 school year
Prior completion of ASL Level 1 & 2 or equivalent with a passing grade is required. Throughout this advanced course, students will master comprehension, expression, language fluency and proficiency. Extensive study through all letters in the Gallaudet ASL dictionary will ensure in students a strong vocabulary recognition and use. Students will further encounter and explore Deaf culture and history; gaining advanced cultural awareness, confidence in active communication, and conversational fluidity. Students will understand the use of ASL in wide variety of settings from casual to professional. Students will be educated and evaluated on grammar use and sentence structure, comprehension and receptive skills, vocabulary, authentic signed presentations, as well as cultural assignments and discussions. Various weekly homework assignments given for independent practice. Deaf culture events assigned. Exams given. Suggested grades recorded.  ASL Level 3 is a one year (two semester) course.
